Centennial Choirs

Since the fall of 2013, the Ankeny Centennial Choral Music Program has created a national reputation as an elite program. With more than 400 students in the high school program, we strongly believe that there is a place for everyone to share the joy that music brings!

Curricular Choirs

Centennial is home to four curricular choirs comprised of singers in grades 10-12 that offer a variety of experiences for students of all musical abilities and interests.

Concert Choir

Centennial Concert Choir is the most advanced choral ensemble at Ankeny Centennial High School. The class curriculum includes advanced techniques for healthy singing, speaking, and living; sight-reading skills, musical terms, abbreviations, notation and symbols; a variety of musical styles; how to mark a vocal score; and techniques for singing with good diction, tone and intonation. Concert Choir is directed by Ms. Caroline Edgeton and the collaborative pianist is Erin Stoltenberg.

Mixed Choir

Centennial Mixed Choir is an advanced auditioned mixed choral ensemble. The class curriculum includes techniques for healthy singing, speaking, and living; sight-reading skills, musical terms, abbreviations, notation and symbols; a variety of musical styles; how to mark a vocal score; and techniques for singing with good diction, tone and intonation. Centennial Mixed Choir is directed by Ms. Abby Hoshaw and the collaborative pianist is Erin Stoltenberg.

Treble Clef Choir

The Centennial Treble Clef Choir is an inclusive non-auditioned choral ensemble. Open to all students who audition, regardless of prior musical background, this choir focuses on the treble clef voice parts, welcoming sopranos and altos who want to explore a diverse range of vocal repertoire. The class curriculum includes techniques for healthy singing, speaking, and living; sight-reading skills, musical terms, abbreviations, notation and symbols; a variety of musical styles; how to mark a vocal score; and techniques for singing with good diction, tone and intonation. Treble Clef Choir is co-directed by Ms. Caroline Edgeton, Ms. Abby Hoshaw, and Mr. Grant Becker and the collaborative pianist is Erin Stoltenberg.

Bass Clef Choir

The Centennial Bass Clef Choir is an inclusive non-auditioned choral ensemble. Open to all students who audition, regardless of prior musical background, this choir focuses on the bass clef voice parts, welcoming tenors, baritones, and basses who want to explore a diverse range of vocal repertoire. The class curriculum includes techniques for healthy singing, speaking, and living; sight-reading skills, musical terms, abbreviations, notation and symbols; a variety of musical styles; how to mark a vocal score; and techniques for singing with good diction, tone and intonation. Bass Clef Choir is directed by Mr. Grant Becker and the collaborative pianist is Erin Stoltenberg.

Show Choirs

Ankeny Centennial has four show choirs and one middle school choir offering a variety of experiences for
students of all musical abilities and interests in grades 8-12.

Centennial show choirs have traveled across the country and have garnered such accolades as Best Choreography, Best Showmanship, Best Vocals, Best Band, Best Show Design, and Best Costuming, while winning Grand Championships across multiple divisions. Varsity ensemble, Spectrum, has ended multiple years ranked in the top 5 in the nation, and Centennial’s prep groups are consistently ranked as the top in the state. Centennial’s show choir program is the largest in the region, and is one of the largest in the country, boasting the participation of almost 25% of the student population in grades 9-12.

Spectrum

Spectrum is a varsity show choir ensemble consisting of treble and bass students in grades 10-12 who have completed a formal audition and are currently enrolled in a curricular choir.

Spectrum is directed by Ms. Caroline Edgeton and the show band is directed by Brogan Kearney.

Vortex

Launched in 2023, Vortex is a varsity treble show choir with students in grades 9-12 who have completed a formal audition and are currently enrolled in a curricular choir.

Vortex is directed by Ms. Abby Hoshaw.

Eternal Rush

Eternal Rush is an SATB show choir ensemble, consisting of students in grades 9-12. ER strives to get better at each and every rehearsal and looks forward to the challenges and rewards that come with being a top ensemble.

Eternal Rush is co-directed by
Ms. Emily Battani and Mr. Riley Anderson.

Chaos

Created in 2018, Chaos began another new era of show choir at Centennial. This group consists of students in grades 9-12, and they compete as a mixed prep group.

Chaos is directed by Mr. Grant Becker.

Ignition

Northview Middle School is home to Ignition.

Ignition is a non-auditioned mixed show choir for 8th grade students of all musical abilities and interests, and is students' first show choir experience! Ignition is co-directed by Ms. Samantha Thomas and Mr. Ryan Orme.
